Description
The BEC battery backer 20A is used to protect the receiver power supply when using a controller with BEC function. If the BEC power supply to the controller breaks down briefly or even fails completely, the receiver and servos are supplied from the connected backup battery. Without such a BEC fuse, a failure of the BEC function in the controller would in any case lead to a total failure of the entire receiving system.
In principle the BEC battery backer 20A connects the backup battery in parallel with the BEC of the controller. The current is then always taken from the current source with the higher voltage!
If the main current is to be taken from the regulator BEC, only the voltage from the BEC must be higher than the voltage of the connected battery. Since the voltage can usually be adjusted in today's BECs, the selection of possible batteries is no problem. For regulators without adjustable BEC regulator voltage, a corresponding battery with a lower voltage than the BEC voltage must be used.
If, on the other hand, the main energy is to be drawn from the connected battery (which must then be dimensioned accordingly) and the regulator BEC is only used to protect the battery, the receiver battery used must have a higher voltage than the regulator BEC. In this constellation, the battery is protected against failure by the BEC function. In this case the battery pack must have sufficient capacity to supply the model with all the power you need, as it provides the total energy for the receiver system and the servos.
If you are using a 4-cell NiMH battery (approx. 5-5.5V) as a backup battery, the controller's BEC should be set to 6V. For LiFe batteries to 6.5V and for LiPo batteries (2 cells) to at least 8V.
