The Spektrum™ DX5 Rugged™ 5-channel transmitter redefines the remote control for land models by significantly increasing the durability to better withstand the harsh conditions that off-road and boat model builders often face in their hobby. We started with the cases of the popular DX5C and the competition favourite DX5 Pro. We have combined this design with the robust characteristics of cordless power tools, some of which are exposed to extreme conditions. The result is a first-class remote control with incomparable robustness, versatility and user-friendliness that you won't want to miss anymore.
Thermoplastic molded polyurethane (TPU) bumpers protect the remote control when dropped or bumped, and even against the odd blow. There's no external antenna to shear off because a small elevation in the housing protects the internal RF antenna. A versatile front housing protection further increases durability and also offers the possibility to mount a camera, light source or other equipment. The two attachment points allow you to attach a carrying strap so you can keep the transmitter handy but have both hands free when you're not driving. An easily accessible compartment allows you to store a few small tools, such as a T-key that snaps directly into place. We've also improved the transmitter's splash resistance* to give you a little more room to manoeuvre if a splash or a few raindrops get on the system. To top it all off, we've added an aggressive off-road style steering wheel that increases durability and an innovative thumb lever that makes one-handed control of your car safer and more precise.
To help you get through the day, the DX5 Rugged not only offers you the handy five channels, but also a number of switches for special functions such as lights, winch or similar. Operation is via a pressure-sensitive control panel that reacts to your fingertips and, by eliminating the need for switches, provides better water repellency. Navigate with your fingertip to the desired menu item, option or value. In addition, the DX5 Rugged Green Edition features a panel updated from previous versions with improved sensitivity, control and system operation. Thanks to the integrated telemetry and smart telemetry ** function, you can view important data such as engine speed, vehicle speed, battery voltage and temperature directly on the transmitter in real time.
No matter what you drive, the programmable AVC® technology in the DX5 Rugged can be customized to match your skill and driving style, giving you the feeling of driving a vehicle that responds predictably in any situation.

When combined with Spektrum Firma Smart ESCs and Spektrum Smart capable receivers, the DX5 Rugged receives telemetry data right to your transmitter through the Smart Throttle port on the receiver. Smart Throttle ESCs can send RPM, speed, ESC temp, volts and amp draw.

Toward the matter of improving water-resistance the scroll wheel and buttons were exchanged for a capacitive-touch sensing control panel that responds to the simple touch of your finger. The Green edition also has an improved screen from previous Rugged releases, offering an improved feel, better control, and more seamless interface operation.

The DX5 Rugged is built around frequency-agile, DSMR 2.4GHz technology. This exclusive Spektrum™ technology can be used in any type of surface application, including boats. Its range and response, particularly in noisy 2.4GHz environments, are superb. It's also backwards compatible with DSM2® and marine-specific Spektrum receivers. This means most longtime Spektrum users can continue to use the receivers they have. They'll only need to upgrade if they want the frequency-agility of a DSMR receiver for busy 2.4GHz environments.
AVC® (Active Vehicle Control™) Programming
The DX5 Rugged makes it possible to custom tune an AVC system by providing easy-access to dedicated adjustments. In addition, open channels of the Rugged can be used to adjust the AVC steering and throttle systems independently.
